VR IN LEARNING
INTRO
The Premise
The disconnect between teachers and students is clear and becomes more prevalent as the age gap between the two increase, and the cultural differences grow. Over 44% of teachers quit in the first 5 years, and the number of teachers giving up their jobs is currently on the rise. A big reason for this is surely the pay, but an often overlooked reason is the lack of control the teachers have over their classes. This happens as students are reluctant to pay attention to the sometimes repetitive nature and lack of immersion in standard education.
In the workplace, the majority of workers feel as if their employers are not investing in their career development, or preparing them for the growing role of technology in the business world.
Additionally the increase of separation between workers as working from home becomes standardized leads to lower employee satisfaction with their jobs.
THE ARGUMENT
With VR, teachers and trainers can meet people where they are and bring the students to places they've never been before. VR is growing as it is expected 25% of internet users will be exposed to it by 2023. In my opinion the power of VR in education is the fact that it's new and its entertaining. A study by AR Insider showed that nearly half of people who have had experience with virtual reality, considered it very satisfying.
VR training provides risk-free, hands-on learning experiences for employees and can simulate hazardous experiences.
VR can also provide more natural human interaction than the Zoom and Teams calls that have taken over big corporation collaboration.
TO CONCLUDE
We learn better through experience.
VR provides a more impactful learning experience and can simulate social activities.
VR can foster empathy and understanding by throwing users into other perspectives.
